Too old for a nebulizer? No, I am 52 and I have to use a nebulizer when my allergies are out of control. I am not a typical asthmatic! I only get asthma when my allergies are very bad; however, when it strikes, it is fierce and the inhalers do not relieve all the tightness in the bronchial tubes! That is when she/I needs the nebulizer treatment!

If she is getting worse, it may mean that it is ongoing and she is not getting a true break in between the asthma reaction. I would definately get her doctor to write a prescription for a nebulizer. If you do this, insurance will pay!

I want you to know that I understand too well, the torment one goes through with asthma! It gets a little scary when your inhaler does not open the tubes enough!! It is the feeling...almost like suffocation...which can cause her to have the "fight or flight" feelings too! If not regulated...this can lead to panic attacks as well! This will only make her asthma worse too!

In as much, I want you to know that I am praying for your child's well being. May God allow her to feel His presence and comfort her when she is at her worse!

You can't really be too old for a nebulizer.
Im not a medical professional, but I work in a hospital and often see patient from 10-89 using a nebulizer.
However, it might be too harsh for her as her lungs arent fully developed.
Check with her PCP.
Here are some websites on this topic.

I think its just a different way to take the meds.

good luck

As a mother with a daughter who had childhood asthma, YES...a home nebulizer helps tremendously. Also, believe it or not, we used to have her to the hospital about once a month with an attack (despite her medications)...then we bought one of those "ionizing" air cleaners, and her attacks went away almost completely! Now, since it was childhood asthma, it may have been a coincidence that she got better then, because she was 10 when we got it, but...the difference was remarkable!

She may need a long acting inhaler or a steroid. Get her to a doctor.
Nebulizers are used for people of all ages. It's an alternate route of providing the drug.

Your never to old for a nebulizer. My Oma's in her 80's and still uses a nebulizer. As for helping, I know that it opens up the air ways, but its the same as an inhaler really, only more of it. Talk with her doctor about it.

Long ... BUT well worth the reading.

Make the connection!

I am a nurse with over 25 years experience in this area and I have seen a lot of people with various illnesses caused from chemicals and fragranced products as well as VOC
