What is this numb, burning spot of my upper right thigh?!

Question: There is an area on the side of my upper right thigh that sometimes burns hot and becomes numb. Sometimes it is itchy. It's been going on for at least 3 weeks. Should I see a doctor? My mother says I don't need to, should I listen to her or get her into taking me?

The condition, I think, is Meralgia Paresthetica. Meralgia paresthetica is a condition characterized by tingling, numbness and burning pain in the outer part of your thigh. The cause of meralgia paresthetica is compression of a nerve
