An A1c of 5.4 translates to a average of 94. This is a good blood sugar and I would not worry.

It looks like you are in good shape with those figures. There is one weakness in the hba1c test that is not obvious. You can have short but damaging excursions into extremely high glucose, but since the hba1c is a cumulative result, it may show that you are fine while actually damage is being done. It would not hurt to take a few other random readings to be sure if you have your own meter.

Those numbers are very good, and do not require further testing right now. You should retake these tests every 3-6 months though

If you start creeping up over 110 mg/dl and the A1C starts going over 6, then there's cause for concern. Otherwise, those numbers are fine.

If you want to keep those numbers in the green, follow a healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables. Trust me, that's how I got off the medication.
