How many "alcoholics" out there have tried Rational Recovery instead o!

Question: What is your opinion about it?

Answers: What is your opinion about it?

i am an addict.
i will always be an addict.
i have been clean for 22 years.
i went to an in house rehab that revolved heavily around AA, NA, CA, and AL-ANON.
when i was released i went to 2 or 3 meetings and decided that none of those were for me.
i chose to go it alone and succeeded. i had a very supportive family but i was very lucky.
i am glad to here of your continuing sobriety but you must realize that no one path is right for everyone.
i am not saying that AA or it off shoots are wrong ...just that it wouldn't work for me.
that doesn't mean it won't work for everyone just as this "Rational Recovery" won't be right for everyone.
i do not agree that there is a "cure" for addiction as i believe that once an addict always an addict.
there should be no shame in being called an addict or an alcoholic as it is a disease just as cancer is a disease.
the shame comes from knowing that something is wrong and doing nothing about it.
as i said i have been clean and sober 22 years and it was not easy....then.
now it is easy to stay sober but i know just one back step and i would end up right where i was all those years ago.
i am glad this program works for you but please don't discount all the other programs and systems out there as they have indeed helped many others.
and again....congratulations and blessings on your continued sobriety!

*edit*
i just wanted to say one last thing.
everyone must remember that no matter how good a system or program is ...nothing will work unless the user wants it to.

you know...

I have been through the whole AA bit back when I was in college, and I just don't know about it.... it really kind of forces you to see it their way, or the high way....

so...

I would like to give that rational recovery a go and read up more on it. Sounds like it has a good basis to it..

of course, whatever works for someone is the one they should use. Whatever works is good....

but AA didn't really do it for me.

never heard of it. is it new?

Sounds interesting. Along with "My Way Out" and the "Sinclair Method", there seem to be some new approaches out there. AA has had a truly lousy success rate, unfortunately.
Wikipedia.org has a good article on RR.

i don't buy the idea of 'never drinking again'
in fact the very idea of having to stay sober like that would over-whelm me.
i would like to find a program that doesn't push god like AA does
but until i find one that feels right i'm gonna stick with AA just cuz it has worked so well for me so far

edit: looked up RR and it is a 'for-profit' orginization. also don't like that.
