Why is milk bad when you sick or coughing?!

Question: ok so I'm sick and they said that milks bad for you if your coughing

Answers: ok so I'm sick and they said that milks bad for you if your coughing

something in the enzymes of milk, makes your throat and nasal cavaties produce more flegm and mucous.. thereby making it harder on you to breathe or produce a good effective cough..
you can however eat yogurt, its good for you.. doctors say to drink plenty of fluids to keep those mucuouses flowing and easier to breathe..

Maybe because it makes more phlegm!

It can cause flem in your throat.

its bad?
i didnt know that

milk increases the production of muscous and phlegm, which will just make you more congested when you're sick.

milk is bad when your sick because it produces more flem

it makes the sick stuff on the back of your throat. >=p

It gives you a film in your throat...and it's not very good at cleaning out your system.

my mom says it makes you puke even more because of flem. my dad said it happened to him too.

Milk, and dairy products in general aid in more buildup of mucus, so by drinkning milk you'll have more saliva and snot to deal with. Water is the best because it can clear things out of your sysytem.

Milk thickens the mucous making it more difficult to cough it up. You need to drink things like hot tea that will thin out and loosen the phlegm.

Milk itself isn't bad. It's when it mixes with whatever is in your stomuch.

Milk assists in producing more mucus. So it will only cause more drainage / congestion.

Steer clear of the milk until you clear up.

I guess it's not easy on the stomach, so you'll throw up more.

Phlegm is the thick, sticky mucus that drips down the back of your throat when you have a cold. Although drinking milk may make phlegm thicker and more irritating to your throat than it would normally be, milk doesn't cause your body to make more phlegm. Frozen dairy products are an easy way to soothe a sore throat and provide calories to an ill child who otherwise may not eat.

A lot of times when you are sick you have a fever and milk will curdle in your tummy causing you to be ill. Drink clear fluids such as juice (not orange juice - too acidic) such as apple and consomme soup (broths).

Drinking milk causes phlegm in your throat. (sorry)

This irritates the congestion and makes you cough even more.

Many people think that milk increases the amount of mucus in your throat and nose. However, this has shown to be a myth.

i think its right because it provoked coughing

because it is thick and creamy and will create lots of junk in your mucus glands but on the other hand if you have an upset stomach it is thick enough to coat your stomach so the acids cannot bother you hope you feel better!

all kinds of dairy are bad for you because they have lactose which causes mucus to form and you get stuffy nose or lots!!! of coughing

it like gets coating stuff all over yhur throat, i no it sounds disgusting when u say it that way but yea i like covers ur throat with milkyness

haha sorry i dont think milkyness is a word

I can only tell you that water & juice is better...cheers!
