I think at worse, you'd hyperventilate. The accelerated heart beat is not healthy, and you can control this. Anxiety attacks have a snowballing effect. It is most likely a symptom of the anxiety attack. Less than 1% chance it could be a side effect or allergy or the medication. If you are covered by health insurance or able to afford it, I would see your doctor and tactfully demand an EKG for peace of mind.

If the EKG is clear it sounds like your medication or dosage isn't effective. Warning steer clear of Effexor if your doctor decides to change meds. Try to ease stress in your lifestyle and exercise regularly.

**Searching medical websites and convincing yourself that your have a serious problem or rare disease is a symptom of your anxiety. Such as you putting this question under the heading of respiratory diseases.

Try involving yourself in a hobby that takes a lot of concentration and you can pick up or stop whenever you feel, such as model making, puzzles or on-line poker. If you have a game system, play a shooter type game. When I cannot sleep and feel an attack coming (fast shallow breathing, seems like hard fast heartbeats) I play party poker and listen to an on-line classical radio station. A good dog may help too:)

well maybe if u hyperventilate
and go into cardiac arrest

I had a prob like this before....This is what you have to do ...let all your fear go,I know it's hard but just say 'FUC K IT" and let yourself live,at this point you need to give yourself a break so you can tell what is really going on with your body...however anxiety can make you feel pain in the chest and many other places on your body but it's not related to your heart so relax try when you breathe exspanding you belly and not breathing in your chest as much......it help if you have someone with you that you trust...since you can't think clearly now they can watch you and if they feel you need medical help they will take action for you.....By the way hyperventilation happen to millions of people when stressed and they don't die or go into cardic arrest so don't worry about it it can feel like you are but trust me you are most likely not...I have researched this.... PS WTF I'm sorry people what the heck is your probelms you must have already had heart probelms because anxiety attacks all by themselves won't cause heart probelms

I had a bad panic attack 2 years ago. It did result in a light heart attack for me. I took Ativan after my ER visit. My Doc then switched me to Zoloft which was better in my case. These things can be really hard to get over as you probably already know. I'll pray for you. Stay with your treatment! We can keep in touch too if you want! Depression isnt something you should deal with alone!

No !!! You are not going to die! It really is all in your mind and remember your brain controls your breathing and your heartbeating as well . You might pass out from to much oxygen to the brain, but you will not die!! I have suffered many many panic and anxiety attacks . Get up and exercise, get your mind off your anxiety issues, believe me. Get on the phone talk to someone who is very calm and comforting . Have someone massage your back ! Stop thinking the crazy thoughts, thats what makes it intensify . For a quick fix , really get up and go do some sort of exercise such as jogging, running , kickboxing..something very active , bike ride, etc...just quit thinking negative thoughts ! I know its easier said than done but try something I mentioned !

No, you cannot die of an anxiety attack.
Your heart is fine.
Speak with your doctor about the ativan...there are many other meds out there which may work better for you.
Also, consider Cognitive Therapy...Bio-Feedback...they tend to be effective when paired with meds.
Good Luck.
