I think I might have an eating disorder called Compulsive Eating. How can i tell!


Question: I LOVE food... I eat if Im bored, if theres nothing else to do, if I feel bad or sad or mad... And then I always feel bad because I put on weight. I recently was not able to fit into a pair of pants that were just purchased. I feel horrible about my weight.

It sounds like you do. Try an experiment with yourself. Next time you're bored or sad or angry or something, drink a glass of water. It's amazing, but I've known many people who have tried this and it takes away the urge to eat unless they really need to eat. It's working for me, too.

Sometimes when we think we're hungry we're really thirsty. Sometimes we condition ourselves to eat because we can't think of anything else to do. If it hasn't gone too far, the water remedy should work. If it doesn't consider seeing a doctor for some help before it becomes really serious.

dang..i have this exact same problem. i dont how you tell if you have it, but i think i do. i eat all the time.

You can tell if you eat compulsively: if you eat compulsively, then you eat compulsively.

you need to go see a doctor. not ask people on the internet. for this sort of thing, random people don't know any more than you do. good luck.

i do that to. and i feel the same way. but ive never thought of it as a disorder. some people just do that if their bored or sad.

yes you do have compulsive eating symptoms are when people eat exccessively when they are bored or if they are depressed

You sound like you're getting into a habit where food seems to help comfort you in difficult times. You need to find another outlet for that habit...get outside and take a walk instead. Walk to the grocery store, if you have to, but get out and get some activity.

You can tell by the fact that you always have food in your hand and your mouth full.

If you eat when your bored and for emotional reasons you deffinatly have an eating disorder. You should talk with someone you trust about it to get help. If you don't if could get worse later in life and cause you serious health problems

It's not called compulsive eating, it's called gluttony.....one of the seven deadly sins.....

well, you should try to stop that habbit. but if that doesn't work, instead of stuffing your face with unhealthy food like ice cream and such, eat healthier foods. i can't guartantee you'll lose a lot of weight, but you won't gain as much as if it was unhealthy foods.

You just answered your own question. You are a compulsive eater. Consult a licensed physican...and no I do not mean "Dr. Phil". A good doctor will hook you up with the proper treatment.
And always remember that you are worth it!

Do you think about food all the time? It's easy for someone to make a rude remark about your question but you are serious for some answers.
Try anything active,get out of the house,call a friend etc.You will find yourself not focusing on food so much.Good luck.
