I have the same exact problem and it's hard to sleep from it as well.

Even better than all of these remedies is increasing the humidity in your room at night. I run the shower at full heat for about 10-15 minutes at night before going to bed if the humidity is very low. This adds a little steam to your room. Once you get the room's humidity to about 35%-40%, you will stop having these symptoms.

Trust me...try this tonight and if you're better by morning, give me the best answer. d:) It works every time.

nasal spray

Nasal saline spray. Available over the counter at any drug store.

see a doctor

Get a saline solution. This is similar to nose spray, but only moisturizes your nose with a saline solution without adding more medications.

I put neosporin on my finger and shove it up my nose. Seriously, it will make your nose feel better.

You might be dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids. See the doc.

saline spray, you could also snort water if you didn't want to use saline.

Your local pharmacist will be the best to help you out, especially since you have to be careful of your blood pressure. Make sure to let them know of that condition first. A humidifier might help as well. You may be in an extremely dry environment.

Good Luck and I hope you feel better!

Ocean saline nasal mist is awesome. Ephedrine-free, stimulant free, it is pure, sterile saline solution. Guaranteed to moisten your sniffer.

Your best choice would be to ask your pharmacist. They are very knowledgeable about these things and have as much training as doctors.

you need to have either some fresh eucalyptus to hang in a steamy shower or to use a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a hot bath but only a few drops as more than that can cause skin irritation. you also need a humidifier. if you can't afford one hang dry a load of clothes in your home to get some moisture in the air.

Vaseline or KY Jelly in the nostrils.

There is an over the counter nasal spray called 'Oceans'. It is a light saline spray, but don't let that fool you. It is 0.9% saline which is the normal level that your body has so that it will to mositurize the nasal passages without causing them any further issues. If you do need to take medication for your cold (nose starts to run, etc.) you can safely take benedryl without an increase in blood pressure as it does not contain pseudoepinepherine. If it is possible for you to take the time to make a steam tent (boil water in a pan, take it off heat and make a tent out of a large towel) and breath under it for about 15 minutes, that will also give temporary relief. Additionally, take a long hot shower prior to going to bed and let the steam build up in the bathroom. This may also gvie you enough relief to get some sleep. Finally, If absolutely nothing else is working you can put some water soluble gel like 'K-Y Jelly' on the end of a cotton tip applicator and swab the inside of the nostrils. If you do have to use this method change swabs with each application. (NEVER DOUBLE DIP!) I hope that you feel better soon.

I have used echinacea with success for the same symptoms you describe, and found relief.
You can look into what echinacea can do for you at the following: health.yahoo.com, or see the source below( listed as the source for the info I refer to).

There, you will find a section on "interactions" with echinasea, where you could eliminate it as something to try, if it obviously a conflict with your present medical issues or medication(s). As with all issues of interaction, if unsure, you should ask your physician or trusted pharmacist. They should be able to tell you if it is safe for you to use.
