Your body can become dependent on laxatives or on anything you throw at it, like pain killers or sleep aids.

Stop taking whatever you're taking and yes, you will have to go though a period where your body will have to adapt...

Eventually, your body will go back to normal.

It's like people always taking pain killers as soon as they get a headache...until those don't work anymore so you're stuck with your headache and no medicine will relieve it.

Or people who can't sleep so they take Zolpidem (= Ambiens) and can sleep for 8 hours, then 6, then 4 then 2...then they can't sleep even with the medicine so they have to adapt.

Medicine are great at the beginning but your body always adapt to them so they become worthless. It's called "drug tolerance".

yeah, i think so. maybe you should try taking some fiber pills....

well, it is an opioid, so in theory it is possile to develop an 'addicition' if you will. congratulations, your gut is a smackhead

Yes. You can build a resistance to it. I know of someone who took it for IBS. After 2 years, it no longer worked.

BTW, if you have IBS, it could be from an overactive gall bladder secreting too much bile. Checkout Habas Syndrome.

If you also take fish oil capsules, that might be contributing to soft stools. I'm almost afraid to take fish oil, now.

It can become accustomed to the medication. I wouldn't take fiber pills as others have suggested, these can work as an aid to have more bowel movements. I would see a doctor ASAP.
