What is the difference having a between a stroke and a blood clot?!

Question: A stroke is a diagnosis, specific to the brain / neurologic system. It can, for example, be caused by a blood clot, or other reasons such as a burst blood vessel (anyuerism) or constriction to blood flow to the brain. So - basically, a stroke is damage to brain tissue caused by the lack of blood flow (you may hear the word ischemia) to that tissue, whatever the reason.

A heart attack is basically a stroke of the heart muscle, to give an example that most people can compare.

A blood clot is, exactly what it sounds like, clotted blood. It can occur in any vessel or area of the body. So.. a blood clot can cause a stroke (blockage of blood in the brain), or heart attack. It may affect lungs ("pulmonary embolism"). A blood clot may also be "in situ", or where it grew, for lack of a better term.. and can be treatable and not damaging at all until it moves.

So.. a blood clot can CAUSE a stroke, but they aren't necessarily one and the same.

A stroke is when there's bleeding...

A blood clot means there's a blockage preventing blood from flowing...

a stroke can be caused by a clot or a bleed.

a clot can travel to the brain or the lungs, or the heart.

stroke is a diagnosis, clot is a symptom.

A blood clot can happen anywhere... when it is in the brain it causes a stroke.
That is an Iscemic Stroke

a blood clot (thrombus) can form in any vein causing obstruction of that vessel.this blood clot can move from the site of formation to another site causing obstructions in further vessels like in the lung or the brain (Embolus).now a stroke is usually a thrombus that formed in the brain or and embolus that formed somewhere else and moved to the brain vessels causing obstructions in these vessels resulting in neurological damage. If the damaged has resolved within 24 hours and the clost has disolved this is called TIA generally known as a mini stroke.if the damage lasted for more than 24 hours then this is called a stroke.
