Does Chantix work?!

Question: Has anyone tried Chantix and had success with it? I want to stop smoking but i'm not sure about this new medication. I tried others in the past that made me smoke more.

Chantix has been on the news because of the changes it makes in the way a person thinks - might be suicidal, or might have hallucinations and get yourself shot by a neighbor while you're banging on his door at 2:00 a.m. because he thinks you're trying to break in.

If you do want to stop smoking, decide why you want to stop, and then with that in mind, keep a full unopened pack in your pocket; that way you won't light up one without thinking.
You'll reach for a cigarette, but when you start to open the pack, you'll have a minute to think "Do I really want to smoke right now, or do I really want to quit?" It will enable you to put it off for now, and go get a drink of water or go for a walk. The first day is hardest, second not so bad, and third day is a definite improvement. After that, you've got it made.

After ten years, they still smell good to me, but don't taste good to have a puff.

If you don't have that unopened pack to fall back on, you'll "have to make a trip to the store", and put off stopping again and again... Good luck! Later, you'll realize you don't want to smell like that old ashtray...

I have read about it and the chemistry behind the medication and it looks great. The reason I am writing this (I used to smoke) is to let you know trying it won't hurt. It should not what so ever make you want to smoke more. Try it and good luck!

I was a 43 year smoker...didn't even really want quit. Thought this would be another waste of time. IT WORKED. I have not smoked since June 9'th 2007 because of the CHANTIX. Give it a try and be willing to let it do it's job. You will be so thankful. I AM!!!!

I took Chantix from October of 2006 through December of 2006 and it worked great for me. I haven't smoked since! There are side effects to the medicine (upset stomach, trouble sleeping, unusual dreams) but they go away after your body adjusts to the medicine.

Even with the medicine though you have to WANT to quit and you do need some willpower. The pill will help with your physical cravings to smoke but it won't do anything for the behavioral side. Any time it was a habit for me to smoke (in the car, before a meal, after a meal, right before bed, etc) I still wanted a cigarette. I did what I could to change my routine and that helped (in the car I'd sing with the radio or suck on a piece of sugar free candy, after a meal I'd start sucking on mints, etc).

Good luck quitting!
