Ringworm or rash??!

Question: My 3 yr old daughter a few weeks back had something I thought was ringworm. A pedi agree with me and we started using an antifungal cream on it. It did fade but never went all the way away. It has seem to spread and now also has some what of a rash too. No one else has gotten it and my son and her are usually close together and he hasnt gotten it either.

Does anyone know of a bath treatment I could use on her or a whole body cream?

How long did you use the treatment for.

A rule of thumb for ringworm is to apply the cream twice a day until it is completely gone and then for one week after that. You need to be generous with the cream as well - go well beyond the borders of the rash.

It could just be that you didn't go long enough to cure it -- those little fungal infections are stubborn. I usually tell my patients that it might take up to a month of treatment before it is all gone.

If the anti-fungal cream didn't work it's probably not ringworm. Ringworm has a very distinctive look (like a ring).

It might be a mild form of eczema. It's usually caused from dry/sensitive skin, harsh soaps, hot long showers/baths, etc. You just have to find out whats causing it.

The cream might've helped because it acts like a moisturizer. Talk to your pedi again if it doesn't clear up soon. If it's eczema he'll know and give you a cream for it.
