Can I get herpes if...?!

Question: My younger sister has had 2 cold sores in her life so I know she has herpes since cold sores are the most common form of herpes. Well she is 14 and miserable and she claims to have done something to my water AFTER I ate ice out of the water. If she spit in my water or something like that and I ate ice out of the water could I get herpes? Yes, I could ask her if she really did do something to my water but I doubt she'd tell the truth.

How are cold sores spread?

The herpes simplex virus usually enters your body through a break in the skin around or inside your mouth. It is spread through coughing, sneezing, direct contact with a cold sore, or touching contaminated fluid-such as from kissing an infected person and touching the person's saliva.

The virus can also be spread from one person to an area of someone else's body by touching an active cold sore or sharing things that a person who has a cold sore has used. A parent who has a cold sore often spreads the infection to his or her child.

if she has done that to your water yes you could get herpes if she is in the 'sloughing' phase just before the cold sores become visible which is the most infectious time. It is still communicable when the cold sores are visible too.

I think you would maybe catch it. Ask a doctor.

ewww

Once you have herpes you have them for life. She needs to be more aware of what precautions she must take to stop spreading the virus to others, particularly her sister.

At the very least she must;

Avoid touching the affected area when she has an outbreak
Wash her hands regularly
Hold her hands over her mouth when she sneezes
Do not share drinks, or food
Do not share towels or other similar items
