Any one know anything about exercised induced urticaria?!

Question: I've had this for years since I was a teen. I never knew why my legs would flare up with intense itching whenever I ran until I researched it and found this diagnosis. Is this a condition that could affect my overall health in any way? I get severe itching for about 10 minutes and then it eventually goes away as I continue to run. It can be unbearable however and if I give in and scratch myself I get big huge red welts. I've never had problems with breathing, etc. It seems to only happen when I've started back up with running....but as long as I continue to run daily or at least every other day it doesn't flare up again. Is there a reason why it only happens with my first day back running? I'd hate to think that I have to stop running to avoid this. Is this a serious problem? What should I do?

I suffer from the same problem. you describe it perfectly. urticaria itself is not life threatening, but you may have a predisposition for other allergy problems (asthma, allergic rhinitis, eczema) and you can pass those on to your kids.

Otherwise, it is just a good incentive to stay active.

OMG - I've suffered for 33 years with this and never knew it had a name!!!! Thanks for bringing up this issue.

I'm fine though. I do have asthma and excema though.
