I have never had a colodsore in my life. But my boyfriend has.
1. They dont last for a long time as long as you leave it alone and dont do anyhitgn to make it worst (dont pick on it).
2. Carmex does work and there are other stuff you can use just incase you dontlike to use carmex. Just wash your mouth once in awhile.
3. By stages?...do you mean?...idk.
4. Yes it can be dangerous butit isnt going to kill anybody. Just dont kiss anyone in the mouth and try not to share drinks or etc. with anyone at all.
5. (you should know by what i just told you)

Hope it works out okay:)

1. depends on the person. but mostly about a week.
2. abreva is the best.
3. .....
4. yes.
5. do not kiss anyone on the lips.

Cold sores are a version of the herpes virus. There are many different types of herpes viruses and they are all not sexual in nature. Genital herpes is, but cold sores aren't. Once you have the virus in your body you can never get rid of it. It will lay dormant for a while and then something will trigger it to come out. Usually cold or hot, dry lips, sunburn and stuff like that. They last about a week or 10 days. They start out as a little itchy and then start to get big and red. Then they will have little white bumps. The little white bumps dry up, it scabs and goes away. Carmex really isn't a cure. It only relieves the symptoms such as discomfort and itching. If you want to reduce the time you have a cold sore, go to the doctor and get a prescription for Valtrex or you can take a supplement called Lysine, you can get this at a health food store. These will shorten the time that the cold sore is present, but will not cure you from getting them, nothing can do that. Cold sores are contagious so wash your hands and don't kiss anyone while you have one. Hope this helps.

First of all you dont have to have had sex to get a cold sore (herpes complex) - most people who get them got them from having the chicken pox when they were young.
1. last about a week
2. Abreva is best
3. once the sore has broken out it will dry up and go away slowly
4. yes
5. keep your hands off it! wash your hands often. no kissing

Cold sores are actually a herpes virus - but it is a different type to genital herpes which is an STI. I'm guessing you are probably from America, so I'm not sure if this product is available there but it is EXCELLENT it is called Zovirax. You will usually feel some tingling around your lip before you get one this is the time to apply the zovirax and it will usually not appear at all. If you do not put it on in time and the cold sore does appear, applying the cream should make it last no more than a couple of days. They are contagious - you can avoid spreading them to other people by not kissing, or sharing drinks etc. I believe that once you get cold sores you are likely to continue getting them - you can avoid spreading them by not touching them and washing your hands. I know that a trigger can be sunlight so if you have a cold sore then try to stay out of the sun and it may last less time.

They usually last about a week and yes, carmex is the best from my experiences. The sores start out swollen and sensitive, then after using the carmex, they start to dry up and make a scab. For the dryness, you want to keep your sore moist, so you need to keep some vaseline on them(will help healing time also). No, they are not contagious! (That's what my doc tells me.)

My wife gets these regularly, and I get them occasionally.

We both hate Carmex. Abreva seems to help. The best solution for me is when they're coming up to lance the blisters and apply hydrogen peroxide several times a day. It stops them in their tracks, and they don't develop further. There's no big nasty scab left over, either.

Kind of a gross solution, but it does work.

The fluid in the blister is extremely contagious, so anything that touches that fluid -- hands, lips, needle, etc. -- needs to be sterilized.

zovirax- but you have to put it on when you feel the first tingling. It is herpes simplex, which is NOT an std, it comes up only when you lack sleep or when your resistance is low. Yes it is contagious, so wash hands and don't kiss. It lasts about a week or so, it is contagious only until the crusts break open and start to dry... Vita. E or zinc cream will prevent scarring from repeated occurrence

1- takes 7 to 10 days 2-zovirax cream is best cream 3- no stages just erythema then drying and sloughing occur 4-only during flare up not dorminant one 5-donot kiss any one
