yes!!! just to make sure...

rabies r 4 dogs?

You would never get a rabies vaccination unless you were biten by a rabid animal.

some places reccommend you get one.. but unless you'll be outdoors alot or in a jungle or mountainous region, you don't need to get the shot.

ONly if you get bitten by a rabid animal. I went in 2004 and got a few - Hepatitis A and yellow fever, I think. Visit the State Department Web site, but realize that they are very, very conservative. They overreact a lot. Go to a travel medicine clinic at a local university hospital for more info and the best care.

Also, take Cipro for traveler's diarrhea - that is the most common problem.

Personally, I would get any injection going although I've never been to S.America, I've heard of protective inoculations as a matter of necessity been given to people travelling there.
Best advice: Consult your GP asap....don't leave it to the last minute.

if i were you i would ask your dr. what kind of vacins you may want to get. there are alot of them for dry and rainy counties that your dr can go over you with

You must follow the requirements of each country you visit. So, the country with the most extensive requirements is the one you should comply with. Try searching the information site of each Country. There you will be directed. Or, call each Country' embassy in Washington DC and ask that question. Don't just guess? You might not be allowed in somewhere if you don't have the right shot records in your passport.

There is a website that you can go on that will give you the reccommended vaccines for where you are traveling. When I went to Mexico it was tetnis, Hep A, Hep B

Look it up at this web site:

this site should be of help

Oh boy...you are going to South america not the end of the world...or a far away jungle !!
Here in south america (I`m from Ecuador) we have everything you need to have a safe trip...just don`t drink tap water always ask for water in bottles...that`s all.
Now...if you are going to the Amazon jungle on your own that could be different...but if on a tour nothing happens.
If you`re gonna eat food from street vendors then you will probably be sick...but in a fine restaurant things are safe.
You will find lots of things just like USA...and many others much nicer and different.
Come...no need to worry.

The cdc has a section on travel recommendations that list the recommended and required vaccinations for every country. You should def. be looking at that to see which vaccinations you need- - some south american countries require yellow fever. www.cdc.gov.

With regards to rabies vaccination, it is usually only recommended if you plan to be in the wild somewhere or around a lot of animals -- ie. you are going to be treking through the rain forest for a month, volunteering at an animal hospital, do field research, etc... Most normal travellers do not need it. I was in a national park in botswana for 3 weeks and I didn't get the vaccination.

Just some other advise - from someone who has travelled a lot around the world -- spend the money and invest in travel insurance. It tends not be too expensive and will cover your medical expenses if somehting should happen. If you have regular medical insurance it will not cover anything that happens overseas. Travel medical insurance will pay to evacuate you to a hospital of your choice and pay for all care. So if you end up getting bitten by a rabid animal it will pay for you to get the vaccination and come home.
