Question about Mucinex meds?!

Question: Okay, so I bought Mucinex DM yesterday and last night I took it before going to bed...to be suprised to see this morning it was an expectorant...the reason I coughed all night. But after taking a look at the bottle again, I noticed that it said "expectorant and cough supressant. How can this medication be both?

Any suggestions on how to use the DM and supress my cough? I was thinking about taking it during the day and Nyquil at night.

The expectorant and supressant combination is supposed to encourage a less frequent, more productive cough. So when you cough, sneeze or blow your nose, something comes out instead of just ear popping. The DM in the morning and Niquil at night should work just fine. The Mucinex should not make you drowsy. But I know people who take Motrin and pass out. If the mucinex doesn't work you could go with the Dayquil/Nyquil multipak.

I can't help you with the first part of your question, but I just wanted to let you know that it probably is not a good idea to take Mucinex DM in the morning, it made me incredible drowsy when I used it.
