Is having a bigger than usual abdomen/tummy associated with having diabetes?!

Question: Yes, abdominal fat is associated with *Type 2* diabetes (insulin resistance). Type 2 diabetes is also known as "adult-onset" diabetes, although overweight children may also develop Type 2 diabetes as well.

As mentioned, Type 2 diabetes is associated with the metabolic syndrome, which links abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood lipids (fats), and high blood sugar (Type 2 diabetes).

Eating a high GI carb diet, consuming trans fats and other junk/processed foods and soda, and a lack of exercise all seem to contribute to abdominal fat and Type 2 diabetes.

Also, some diabetics (Type 1 or Type 2) can develop lipotrophy, or fat "patches" where they inject their insulin, including their abdominal area. Usually these are relatively small, and are very rare with the new purified insulin. Lipotrophy would not resemble a "pot belly", but it may cause fat pockets or "tummy bumps" in severe cases.

i think so coz i have it and i have a nice body ( not in a big headed way) but its not chubby or fat its toned but my belly pokes out :(

nope... its about the genetic inheritance and lifestyle

according to the "experts" yes! Waist 35 or larger for girls and 39 or larger for men.

They say an apple shaped bod foretells diabetes. I don't happen to agree or maybe I am not typical. I still do not have an apple shaped bod!! After several decades it is still hour glass shaped and I work hard to keep it that way!

BTW: I have a 25 inch waist!

A large tummy may be an indicator of cushings syndrome.

Check it out.

Good luck.

A big abdomen is a part of a collection of signs of symptoms for "metabolic syndrome" (a vague and broad term). It definately is associated with heart disease.

Yes, yes, yes, it raises the risk factor for lipid problems also and high blood pressure and heart attacks.
