the pump is pretty much amazing. i got mine when i was 11 and i've had it for 8 years and i couldn't be happier. it definitely has helped me get in better control. you set a basal rate (most likely multiple basal rates) on the pump, and then you bolus when you eat, or need to take extra if your blood sugar is high. i have the minimed paradigm 712. i love the minimed pumps, they have worked great for me, and i definitely recommend it.
yes, if you aren't hungry you don't have to eat, but keep an eye on your blood sugars just in case, to make sure you don't go low. same thing with sleeping in...there is absolutely no problem with it, make sure to test your blood sugar as soon as you wake up. there is nothing that you can't do just because you are wearing the pump, you can still play sports if you want...they make special cases, and the pumps themselves are pretty durable (i've dropped mine a few times pretty hard and nothing went wrong). you should definitely talk to your doctor about it, and your parents too, because everyone in your family should know how to work it in case something happens and you need help. if you have any more questions feel free to contact me.

good luck!

well the same with me but im juggaling between the pump or having the transplant, but with the pump it will be the same as it is now only more controlled you still have to watch what you eat and all because if you don't you may end up in a coma with or without the pump.

I have a pump, and while it does give me a lot of flexibility with scheduling, eating and sleeping, I am still a diabetic. It does not fix everything, but it helps make it all more manageable.
I can have some junk food, sometimes. I can sleep in and not eat, if that is what I want. BUT....I still got to look after my diabetes. There is still blood sugar testing, and highs, and lows.
You need to discuss what the pump can and can not do for you with your Endocrinologist, and of course, your parents.

i have the pump but right at the moment i am on a "pump vacation"
i have had the pump since i was 11 and i am 14 now
but yes you can sleep with it and you can sleep in its the same thing as the pen kinda
except you have to put a cathider in every 2-3 days and you can only give your self boluses [insulin]
every 2 hours.
and you are supposed to have your blood sugars under control before you can get the pump because you are on carb ratios.
if i were you honestly i would consider staying on the shots or going to the pen.
because i am considering it.[it makes it alot easier!
you can roughhouse and you do alot of stuff which you cant with the pump because if you play football and your in the whole game you wont be able to play with the pump because you can olny keep it off for an hour.
you might have to get up early
but you onli have to check your blood 4-6 times a day
and onli 2 shots.
btw ask your doc [if you stay with the shots or kgo to the pen]
if you can get the disposable pen and the humalog mixed disposable pen
it is MUCH easier.
GOOD LUCK!

it doesnt matter what you think the doctors approval is what you need.
