Why do people lose hair when they get cancer?!

Question: its caused by what they do to take the cancer away-chemotherapy

Answers: its caused by what they do to take the cancer away-chemotherapy

It's actually from the chemotherapy, not the cancer itself.

its not cased by the cancer. its caused by the treatment. its called chemotherapy, which is really hard on the body, and therefore sometimes ends up in hairloss, plus other temporary complications

Chemotherapy affects rapidly dividing cells. It kills rapidly dividing cells, like cancer cells. Unfortunately, hair is also "rapidly dividing" as you know, your hair is always growing. So when you get certain types of chemo, it kills the hair cells.
It does grow back after the medication stops!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Most of the time it's the upper cancer treatments that you lose your hair. Chemotherapy IS VERY HARD ON YOUR BODY! You can lose it with lower cancer treatments but it depends on the dose, your body, type of treatment ect.. Stress can also cause you to lose hair. I had cervical cancer connected to my bladder. Almost five years clean an I didn't lose my hair. I had one week of 24/7 chemo in the hospital the once a week for several months, plus radiation for 36 weeks 5 days a week then radiation inplants were I laid in the hospital for 3 days flat on my back. Another lady at work had cervical cancer an just lost the top of her hair but length pair was fine. It's all a maybe game, maybe you will maybe you won't. The heck with your hair though that's what wigs are for just concentrate on your life, your health. My mom past Dec 12th 2007 with lung cancer, lung complications took her not the cancer.

As you can see by the answers, it's the chemo that make one loose your hair. My girlfriend had breast cancer and during her extensive chemo treatments so lost all hair. Including the eyebrows. It did return after treatment and strangely enough it came back Jet Black, when it was blond. Now she wares is short and changes the color whenever she feels like it. She says now that it's back she's going to have some fun with it.
She's now a two time survivor at the young age of 35.
What a strong spirit she has.
