Yeah, there are lots of carcinogens in those chemicals.

I would seriously advise staying away form perming.

As for shampoos and conditioners, go to your local health food store and get something natural. It's as simple as that.

i've been getting perms for years....and none of that stuff has happened to me.....don't worry....if u want to get ur hair permed do it

I've heard of stuff like that too. I don't know if it can or not. Some people get several perms and never have problems.

I would have to say yes and no. When your hair is permed what happens is the chemical bonds between certain proteins in the hair is broken, and then reformed. When the bonds are broken, this realeases the old structure of the hair, and when your hair is in rollers it gives the hair the shape that you want when the bonds are reformed. The chemicals that are used to do this can cause damage to the scalp. Over time when this is repeated you are repeating damage to the scalp, this repeated damage could cause cancer. This is why it is important to make sure that you have not washed your hair prior to getting a perm because the oils on your scalp are washed off, leaving the skin open to the damage the perm chemicals might do. Also there are cream protectants that can be put on the scalp to protect it. Also there are many things that are used that can be cancer-causing that we use everyday. As long as these thing are not over used, the chances of causing cancer are very minimal. When studies are performed, thing may be associated to one another (for example a study may find that being a woman may be associated with buying more chocolate) but this does not mean that one thing causes another- it just means they are related in some way. So using the example of women and chocolate- you can not say that being a woman causes you to buy chocolate. It just means being a woman is some how related to chocolate sales.

Plus if I may say bladder cancer is very treatable. It is not one of the top 10 cancers that kill women. The top three in no particular order are lung, breast and colon cancer.
