Chronic Kidney Disease?!

Question: I am 14 years old. I have been researching Chronic Kidney Disease on WedMd and I've had some of the symptooms. Such as lots of headaches, not feel hungry, nauseated.....I've been to the doctors twice. Only one of them a urine sample was taken. There has been some often occuring Urinary sicknesses on and off. Very unconfortable. Anyone know anything useful. My mom says that it's nothing, and has been putting it off. We don't have insurance...so? The doctor suggested Texas Children's hospital to get some tests done such as Ultrasound. If you have any information, or other diseases with such Symptoms, please answer this question, thank you.

I have Polycystic Kidney Disease and I am on dialysis. You are very young and your doctor should be checking your protein levels because you say you have headaches and don't feel hungry at times. You are nauseous because your kidneys are possibly shutting down since they are not able to rid your body of toxins. Taking a urine sample does not tell the whole story. You may need a complete CT scan to see what's going on with your kidneys. If you do indeed have a kidney problem, Medicaid will be able to assist you. Kidney disease has a lot of other symptoms, but because you have headaches, you may want to check your blood pressure more frequently, since high blood pressure is a side effect of kidneys not working properly. Go to a good urologist. Don't hesitate. In the meantime, eat cranberries or drink the juice.

What was the result of the urine test? If it was normal you probably are fine. You can go to the doctor for a chem panel which is a blood test that checks the BUN and creatinine level which are markers of kidney function. If these are abnormal then you can start worrying about possible kidney problems. Your doctor would then refer you to a nephrologist who would conduct more tests.
Chronic kidney disease is uncommon in young people unless you have some underlying medical problems.
Your symptoms are not that specific and can be something else.
If your doctor suggested going to the hospital for further testing why dont you follow his advice?!
Good luck!
