What do I do to relieve the itching!?!?!?!?!

Question: I am getting an allergy test for chronic hives on the tenth...which means no benadryl, no kind of antihistamines at all until after that day. And I am covered in hives, and very miserable. What do I do to relieve the itching?

My husband is also quite allergic and has had a constant, itchy rash for nearly 20 years!

When the itching becomes unbearable he uses Dermaplast (a spray anesthetic) to cool it down, along with ice packs.

Good luck. I sympathize with your dilemma.

ice would cool it down

Something cold - i.e a cold bath if you can bare it if not something like a packet of frozen peas

ice packs

Try something meant for sunburn pain. It will numb your skin and should help with itching.

Um.. take a super hot bath, and then a super cold shower.

Or skip the bath and go straight to the cold shower. (Ice works okay too...)

Try a little bit of talc. When I had the chickenpox my mother used to apply talc on my skin and that would relieve itchiness!
It's a great thing!!

Calamine lotion works well. It cools and relief itching. Hope that works for you. and good luck. Happy new year. :-))

Try Sarna lotion.

A oatmeal bath should help sooth your skin.

WHAT IS IT WITH HIVES????? I know atleast 4 people now covered in hives and have no clue why..... My mom has had them since September and they stay under control when she takes the rx but as soon as it runs out she gets them all over again. Is something going around an doctors arnt picking up on it yet, or can some type of detergent or soap be contanimated?????

Anyway, you are not alone. And without being able to use meds until your testing try a cool bath, keep all your clothes loose and light. Heat, sweating and tight clothes will make it worse.

Pine tar - can get from a pharmacy - anything cool should also work - beware getting too wet or hot as this can cause the skin barrier to deteriorate and get your immune system in your skin way too excited - and hence more itchy

The best cure for itching is a salve made with marigold flowers.
In Germany it is called Ringelblumen salbe. You can buy it at any drugstore in Europe. It works also for insect bites.
The only ingredients should be butterfat or vaseline and marigold flower extract.

Good Luck!
