Flu shots.....?!

Question: I got one today -- I work in a hospital (not a medical person - office) - I've had one before and I was fine so I said why not? My boss is a nurse and she won't get one - is over 50 too and she said "just because" --- no reason given.
To me, it seems silly to not get it especially if it's free and you can avoid it (the flu) --- are you against them and if so, why??? I'm just baffled why someone wouldn't want to - especially when it's free.

As mentioned earlier, while you may develop low-grade fevers, redness, soreness, and malaise after receiving a flu-shot, you cannot get the flu. Unfortunately, the flu shot only protects against 3 strains of influenza virus most likely to cause a flu outbreak this year. As a result, the flu shot will change every year. Having received the flu shot one year will not protect you from getting it the next.

These strains must be cultured prior to vaccine creation. Growing the virus may require the use of eggs. If you are allergic to eggs, you should not get the shot.

It is recommended that anyone over age 50, in close contact with infants or the elderly, with a chronic medical condition, or health care professional should receive a flu shot. Also, if you want it, you should get it.

There are many reasons why someone would refuse the flu shot (I won't comment if they make sense or not). Common ones include:
"I got it last year"
"I got the flu after my last flu shot"
"I'm allergic to eggs"
"I don't get sick"
"I'll tough it out"
"I don't like needles," and...
"Just cuz"

but what is your question?

A friend of my mother's hated getting them, because they always made her really ill. I don't know if she was having a sort of allergic reaction, or what was going on. But she wound up sick for days with what appeared to be the flu. Her doctor insisted she get the shot every year, and it made her sick, every year. Go figure.

Many people cite the reason they don't get it is because the last time they did they got the 'flu'. The flu vaccine is a killed vaccine which means there is no way possible to get the flu from the vaccine itself. Which means people who do get sick either:
1) Don't have the flu- the flu vaccine does not protect you from the common cold, allergies, etc that many people mistakingly call the flu
OR
2) They were infected just prior to recieving the vaccine and it was not prevented in time.

For the one saying you don't get the flu from a flu shot is wrong. I had the flu shot once and a week later I was deathly ill. EVERYONE in my office that gets it ALWAYS ends up sick a week later. I have now started to refuse to work the next week after they give it out, because I end up sick, because everyone that got the shot is coughing and sneezing and aching.

some people react to them are ill after, ive had one for the past 5 years and apart from a sore arm for 24 hrs had no effects, yes i agree with u its worth it.

I would not want it even if it was free. Just because it is free does not mean that it is good for you. The flu vaccine has mercury and formaldehyde in it. These are known toxins and they are being injected into the body. Plus the vaccines only "protect" against 4 strands of a virus, that they predict from the previous season. Viruses mutate constantly, so chances are the vaccine will not "protect" you anyway. But if you do happen to get the flu naturally, then your body will start to build antibodies against that strain. Anyways, that is why I would refuse the vaccine. Here is a govermentment sponsored website, so the information should be valid. Also is from January 07, so is fairly new:
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkboo...
It has the ingredients of each vaccine.
Also an awesome video clip about flu vaccine, the will totally make you see why the concept of the flu vaccine is rediculous, and it is funny too:

Mercury has a half-life of 50 years, so eventually enough could accumulate to cause some damage, if we are getting the vaccine year after year. Repeated flu vaccines has also been correlated to alzeheimers.
