Hi,
I am so sorry about your loss. My dad (63 yrs) suffered a massive stroke. Although he suffered paralysis of the left side and other confusion issues, he was doing pretty well with PT in rehab when about a month into it he suffered kidney failure. For 6 weeks or so he's was in the hospital due to the kidney issues and other problems that have occurred as a result - minor heart attack, eating problems etc. Since being in the hospital, he's had really bad days and somewhat better days with one problem after another. He hasn't eaten since he arrived at the hosp - they inserted a Jtube and then had problems with the absorption of the feed .. he's now on a minimal feeding (10 ml/hr) and they think he has 'swallowing issues' due to the stroke -

He was able to swallow post-stroke , not sure what the problems are now ? They seem to have given up and say he will be discharged in the near future to a Nursing Home and there's no chance of further stroke recovery. That seems a bit harsh to me as he's only 3 months post stroke and hasn't lost any of the 'progress' that he gained when in rehab originally. I want to be hopeful but then lose hope and get depressed. We encourage him when we're there and talk about rehab and coming home etc but deep down we wonder if he'll ever leave the hospital. At this point we're concerned he's going to succumb to malnutrition issues !! He's falling apart before our eyes and we don't know what to do about it. It's sad to say but in some ways I wish he was at peace and didn't have to go through this. Its painful to see the look in his eyes.

MY aunt did. But I think It was a minor one and is still living.

my grandmother died from a stroke.

For about two years, my grandmother had a succesion of 'mini strokes' that she survived and recovered from pretty well...but then had a massive stroke and died two days later. I hate to say this, but I was glad to see her go...I couldn't bear to see her live in the condition she was in after the last one. There really ARE worse things than death.

i had a stroke. had no feeling on my left side,my face drooped on the left side. CALL 911 RIGHT AWAY

.yes my brother had one but lost some memory....... sorry about your mom

i work with many stroke patients. each has varying degrees of problems. i am sorry for your loss.

I known a man who survived a major stroke.
He is paralyzed on much of the left side of his body, but is able to get around with the aid of a cane.

my aunt had one a few years back, my uncle didnt find her for almost 12hrs...but she is fine now...the only effect is that she cant seem to get her mouth to say what her brain wants it to. Aggravates her untill what she wants to say comes right out. My mother dies in august...ruled heat exhaustion, but we didnt have an autopsy, we are pretty sure it was heat induced heart attack and/or stroke.....whatever it was, it is still a strange thing not having her around

My Ex wife mother. she's passed now

Yes I did in 2004. Thinking it was a minor stroke or mini stroke cause I came out of it hours later. After doctors gave me a lot of test to determine where it was I was told it was in a very dangerous area and that I should have not come out of it as I did and that people like me that had what I had had to have a lot of therapy or just never recover from it so that scared the hell out of me. I am a cancer survivor...had hodgkin's twice...had a heart attack cause the stent of my poracath went into my heart and gave me many attacks until they were able to get it out of my heart...very tedious procedure...also while on chemo I had gotten double pnuemonia with staff and had to have lung surgery to get it out cause no antibotic was working...the surgery saved my life. Of all the things that I have been through I should not be here but it just not was my time I guess. Miracles do happen.
