Question: i have emphysema and now have bronchitis i could not afford all the prescriptions(albuterol,prednisone,and doxycyclene)should i take the prednisone if i could not afford the doxycyclene

Two things:
1) Ask your doctor this question. While answers you get here on this site may be interesting and give you things to think about, they are no substitute for an actual doctor's advice about your exact and total physical condition. You can call the nurse and ask this for free.
2) If you cannot afford both medications, ask the doctor if he/she can give you some samples free and explain why. If not, contact the manufacturer of the medication. The doctor's office or a pharmacist will be able to tell you who the manufacturer is. Most pharmaceutical manufacturers have programs whereby you can apply for free or reduced cost medication based on your financial situation. Get the toll-free phone numbers, web site, and mailing address when you get the name of the company. Also ask the pharmacist if it's available in generic form and if he/she can substitute a generic version. Sometimes the doctor has no idea how much the medication costs and may be willing to write a prescription for a lower cost drug that will do the same or almost the same thing. Ask the pharmacist what could be substituted and then talk to the doctor about that.

So were you told infection? Take Doxycycline.
You need to check with your doctor before making any changes in how your medication is prescribed. Be honest with him/her and let them know the reason behind it. There may be something else that can be done.....perhaps a different prescription .... or maybe even some samples for you. Pharmacy reps are known to leave lots of samples with doctors which they, in turn, can share with you. This is not done with all meds tho so you'll have to check with the dr first.
i assume you have been on prednisone for a long time if you have emphysema. whatever you do dont stop taking the prednisone suddenly. if you have been on it long term and stop it suddenly it can cause you to go into kidney failure. also the doxycycline is only a short term med for the bronchitis. it is important to take the antibiotic to get rid of a possible infection because pneumonia could be next for you. if possible take all three. borrow some money from family or a friend. you wont have to pay for all three forever. it would be better to get the money for the med than have to deal with the consequences of not taking it. like more medical bills
