My husband and I are trying to have a baby...?!

Question: so I went to the doctor and got all checked out and um.... I have herpes! I never have and do not currently have an outbreak. Do you think my baby will get it if I get preggo? The doc said that at some point in my life, I have been in contact with the virus but tested negative for outbreaks. She said that since I have never had an outbreak... she doesnt think I will ever.

I asked lots of questions to her but forgot this important question! I guess I was in shock

Well, 25% of women have herpes but 90% never know it because they don't have outbreaks, so it is very common! It is true that people who don't have an initial outbreak are likely to never have one, but there are exceptions.

For the most part, you are contagious only when you are having an outbreak, but it is possible to be contagious at other times. I got it from my husband, and he'd never had an outbreak either. So, there is the tiniest chance that you could be contagious when giving birth, but is is so unlikely that doctors don't worry about it.

Considering that 25% of women have herpes and it is incredibly rare for a baby to contract it during birth, you are very safe. Think of all the other women out there who have it and have healthy babies! The only time your baby can get it is passing through the vagina; it is not passed through the umbilical cord. If for some reason you were to have an outbreak at birth time, the doctor would want you to have a c-section to avoid spreading it to the baby to avoid any risks.

Yes, it really works!

If you do not have any out breaks in the birth canal or on the vagina at the time of delivery then the baby will not catch it.,If you do then you will need to have a C-section so the baby doesn't catch it coming out of the birth canal or vagina.
