What causes extremely dry palms and soles of feet?!

Question: My hands and soles of my feet have become extremely hard and dry over the course of a year. I am only 47 but it seems that I have been doing some construction or other manual work whereas I am a school teacher.

Dehydration. Have you been drinking enough water? Also, during winter months, we tend to drink more coffee, which is a diuretic. Caffinated soft drinks are also diuretics. What about medications -- have you been taking anything new over the last several months? Not sure what area of the country you live in, but the colder it is, the harder it is on your skin. I suggest going to get a spa manicure and pedicure. THey will take all that skin off and smooth your hands and feet - it's a nice thing to do for yourself, and as a teacher, you deserve it! Ya'll work hard. If you don't want to do that, then take a hot bath, dry off, put Vaseline all over both feet and put socks on (before bedtime). Leave the socks on while you sleep and when you wake up, your feet will feel much better. Also, I always keep a bottle of Johnson's baby oil on the side of the bathtub; before I get out, I coat myself from my neck to my feet with oil, then I dry off. It provides a pretty good moisture barrier. Take your mulitvitamins too!
