I forgot how to breathe?!

Question: Well recently I've been diagnosed with panic disorder, and since then it seems I can;t remember how to breathe. Like I'll feel like im not breathing enough, then ill get a feeling like I have to take a very deep breath. about half of the time the deep breath wasn't enough and I have to take another deep breath. I have mild asthma but I have never been like this. The only time my asthma interrupted me is when i have asthma attacks. When I try to breathe more i feel light headed and feel like im hyperventilating. I feel like it either has to do with the asthma or the anxiety, but i can;t figure out which and i need advice.

I have very bad lung disease and it is getting harder and harder for me to get a good breath. I wear oxygen 24/7. Lately I have been experiencing very bad panic attacks. It happens when I get too out of breath. I hate it when people say "try to calm down" ... "try to breathe normal"... they just don't understand what the feeling is like. It's horrible!!! You feel like you're just going to die on the spot. I even had one in my doctor's office. I'm now on two kinds of prescriptions and am getting them better under control. It's amazing how fast they can take over and throw you into complete anxiety.
Good luck... I feel your pain... my heart hurts for you. Hang in there and keep asking for help until you get what you need.

You need to call your doctor. He/she, is the one that will give you the best answer. Or you could just call a nurse at the doctors office and ask, i know if you dont have insurance it could be pretty high. So i would call the office and ask what to do. Good Luck.

While I was waiting for a lung transplant I had a lot of shortness of breath-- the lack of being able to catch my breath would cause me to become very anxious and I even had a pill to take if I needed. My breathing had to be really bad to selected to be a candidate for a transplant .

I hope that helps answer your question-- Take care of yourself.

This sounds like anxiety to me and the more you rumerate about it, the worse it gets. You need to try to relax. hopefully the doctor gave you some medicine for your anxiety attacks. If he did not, them you need to express to him that these attacks are going on uncontrolled. Keep in mind, some of the treatments for anxiety are addicting, such as Xanax, but it sounds like you may need this at least for the short-term. Try deep breathing slowly to calm yourself, thus calming the anxiety. Do this repeatedly slowly. Tell yourself to calm down (biofeedback). Close your eyes and focus on something relaxing such as a calm lake or a nice seashore. Inhale and exhale slowly - counting to 10. Hope this helps!

best thing to do is see a doctor. people will give you all kinds of opinions but the best thing to do is talk it over with a doctor.
