(no cheating with internet help)

1. The traditional tests check for your antibodies against HIV, but newer tests are available that look for the virus itself.
2. Depends on what part of the world you're asking about. I'd guess that it's more IV drug users now.
3. A sore or lesion, painful urination, abnormal vaginal or penile discharge
4. Sex, oral sex, anal sex, IV drug use, accidental needlesticks in healthcare workers (although uncommon now)
5. Blood, semen, vaginal discharge
6. Saliva, sweat
6a. Herpes simplex (both types can actually cause oral AND genital herpes but HSV1 is more common in oral and HSV2 is more common in genital)
7. Chlamydia trachomatis strains D-K, Neisseria gonorrhoea, Treponema pallidum (syphilis!)
8. Herpes simplex, human papilloma viruses, HIV, hepatitis B
9. Syphilis, but it doesn't always
10. Syphilis, HIV, hepatitis B and C, HPV strains 16 and 18, and just about anything else can be fatal if your immune system is bad enough

i know that STDs would be limited by spreading if people chose to wear condoms and talk to their partners BEFORE having sex.
