Can't sleep......had warm milk, surfed the net, ate a banana....?!

Question: apart from turning off this computer, any ideas to cure insomnia?!

Answers: apart from turning off this computer, any ideas to cure insomnia?!

Lying down in a dark room is an obvious suggestion, but it does help.

If you can't face lying in bed, lie in the living room on a sofa with a blanket and turn out the lights.

When a thought comes into your mind, force yourself to say "the". Repeat as necessary. It's a good way of breaking cycles of anxious thoughts.

You know you're nearly asleep when your thoughts start becoming increasingly weird. Go with it: embrace the weirdness. And say "the" again if your thoughts start becoming saner instead of crazier.

I know it sounds strange, but saying "the" is a tried and tested way of getting past those thoughts that interfere with sleep.

Good luck!

you should'nt of ate a banana as they give you energy try reading a book.

Er, try counting sheep?

If you have an mp3 stick that on low. Soft songs though.

Sleep well :)

Hi yeah, as Joannes above says the banana was a bad choice, I read in the paper that they are better for waking you up in the morning than a cup of coffee, so not what you need right now!

Have you drank a lot of caffeine lately? Coca cola, tea / coffee etc?

Sometimes I can't sleep ( like now lol ) and i get frustrated, but then when I look back on the day I realise it's my own fault for drinking loads of coffee during the day or a big glass of coke with my dinner!

To help cure your insomnia now, try reading a book, as this is quiet and relaxing, and strains your eyes which in turn makes you tired.

If you are having this problem a lot, try doing some more exercise, if you go running every day or something, chances are you will be tired at night!

Good luck, sleep well

Adam

take some melatonin pills.

read a boring book, and sit still while reading it. it will make you sleepy

TRY GOING TO BED AND CLOSING YOUR EYES!!!

if that doesnt work listen to a radiohead album

Banana = enerygy.
Surfing the net = brain death (leading to over-activity when away from PC)

Those things do not help at all.....
I find reading a book does it for me and if it doesn't im happy to read away.
Also, sudoko and crosswords can do the same.
If you're not partial to reading perhaps make lists of things, I have no idea why but that is also something i enjoy... and you can do little sketches around the side.

Sometimes it's better to just stay up and take care of whatever is on your mind and then you can bet that the next night you will be sleepy.
Exercising during the day will get you pleasantly relaxed also.
I suggest doing some exercises that get the legs moving, such as walking, jogging, running, swimming or bike riding.
These exercises that really get your heart pumping will burn the weight off quickly.

I like push ups, yoga stretches, pull ups, crunches, curl ups, leg stretches, calf raises, and squats as far as being good toning exercises that use no equipment and cost zero money to perform.

I like taking some dumbbells and doing some easy bicep curls, military presses, and lateral raises.

I think diet is important also and try to eat healthy home-cooked meals with lots of vegetables in them.

I try to stay away from the pop and sugar, candy, white flour products, and fast food.

I try to get a good night's sleep each night.

horlicks

Try listening to lullabies. They put babies to sleep not because the babies like the music but because lullabies are usuall slow.... a lot slower than a baby's heart rate. Music that is the same speed as one's heart rate will hype that person. Conversely if the music is much much slower than the heart rate one will fall asleep...... out of boredom.... Of course if you are an older person your heart rate is already slower so you might have to listen to something with a tempo marking of "largo".... Good luck..

I HATE that!!! Get up and do something for about 30 minutes...take a warm shower, then wind down with a book for another 10 or 15...get into some warm pj's and hopefully nod off :)

sleep well!

Food and computers aren't really a good way to get to sleep. Try some herbal tea or reading. If you find soft music helps you sleep, put some on (if that won't wake anyone else up).

For the most part, insomnia comes from trying to sleep when you're not tired, so try to tire yourself out somehow.

If all else fails, and ONLY if all else fails, take a sleeping pill.

I agree with J-MH music does help,

I'm off to bed myself in a min, and I'm going to plug in.. and listen to some soft music, hopefully...
I tried it the other nite and the first 6 tracks were really soothing.. about to close my eyes feeling relaxed then ***!!!***
the 7th track almost blew my brains out !!!! so make sure all the tracks are ' easy listening' otherwise you'll be back on the warm milk, and the other half of that banana by 4 am.

From one insomniac to another...sweet dreams !!

Don't turn on the computer or TV the light affects your brain and it thinks it's time to wake up. Go to bed and read something really boring!

warm bath, read for a little while. turn the lights off and close your eyes....

well milk of a beast most likely won't knock you out, helps you function on the frequency the politicians and military want you to though

surfing the net is definately NOT a way to get tired...
a banana has potassium which is good for you to go box or run around the block

try laying down, with your tv off, and reading a book
(an actual piece of literature)

put on some warm sock before you go to bed. Use your bed only for sleeping and/or sex read a book.. Dont take naps after 3pm. Get Ambien! Hope this helps!
