What to expect with diabetes?!

Question: I recently had a urinary tract infection in which my doctor found evidence that I might be an early diabetic. I'm 18 years old and I have no idea what to expect if I am diagnosed. Can someone give me insight so I know what kind of a ride I might be in for?

First of all know that it can be beaten. I am proof of that. Normally you could expect the following: testing your blood sugar 3 times a day, possibly having to give yourself insulin injections, eat regular healthy meals, complications like comas and heart attacks if you are not extremely careful, cutting WAY back on sweets. It is early in your symptoms and if you eat very healthy, exercise and have the right attitude you can whip it in the a.s.s. I did 4 years ago.

Healthy lifestyle choices can help prevent type 2 diabetes in children.
* Eat healthy foods especially low in fat and calories. Focus on fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Strive for variety to prevent boredom.
* Get more physical activity. Sign up for a sports team or dance lessons, or look for active things to do together.
* Lose excess pounds. Make permanent changes in your eating and exercise habits.
Better yet, make it a family affair. The same lifestyle choices that can help prevent type 2 diabetes in children can do the same for adults.
