How rare is it for a 17 year old to have stomach cancer?!

Question: Ill start out by saying I have leukemia.
well, ive been dating this guy for about a month..

and he was really close with a girl, and they hooked up a few times before we started dating, and when we started dating he said that he didnt want to go around her because she caused a lot of problems, well shes been trying to get ahold of him since.. now, all of her friends keep calling me saying its important. I just got a message saying that she has stomach cancer and she keeps throwing up, well she didnt get "stomach cancer" until after she found out I have leukemia... I asked my mom about stomach cancer, and she said its very rare for someone thats only 17 to get it..........

Im kind of doubting her story.
=/

What are the chances she actually has cancer?
I dont want to be a jerk if she really does have it..
but I dont want to give sympathy over some fake stuff.

Its pretty damn rare for someone as young as 17 to have stomach cancer. Although it certainly is possible. As mean as it sounds, she might be faking it because she seems to want to go back out with the guy that you are dating. I would ignore her messages, why would she need to contact you for and why is she telling you she has stomach cancer? To make you feel bad for dating him? Even if she doesnt have stomach cancer, it might be best to err on the safe side and say that she does have it. Just dont tell anyone that you dont believe her. You probabaly dont need to have any contact with her unless you are friends.

It is very very rare. But still possible.

Very simple, you just let your boyfriend go talk to her and check if thats true (he must be able to talk to her without any problems since he is not a kid), Or you can call her parents and ask them as if you are one of her friends. I hope god will give you happiness and peace through your life.

God bless you

your mom is right. it is very rare for a seventeen year old to have stomach (gastric) cancer. but this doesn't mean that it couldn't happen to your friend.

please refer to the following online resources:

US Data: http://canques.seer.cancer.gov/cgi-bin/c...

UK Data (See Figure 1.1):
http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/cancers...

"Stomach cancer occurs mainly in older people. Less than 8% of cases are diagnosed before the age of 55 years and the rates increase steeply from age 60 onward reaching a rate of over 160 per 100,000 population in men aged 85 and over."

"Most patients are elderly at diagnosis. The median age for gastric cancer in the United States is 70 years for males and 74 years for females."

I'm not certain about your friend having cancer just by your description, but I can tell you that 17 year olds do get different types of cancer in the stomach and abdominal area. My son was diagnosed at 17 with an abdominal sarcoma called desmoplastic small round cell tumor. However, this tumor is rare and almost always strikes boys. In females it is often mistaken for ovararian cancer. I do know four or five teenage girls with this disease so it is possible.

There are also other types of cancers that teenagers can have within the abdominal area . .Wilms tumor involves the kidneys, also a Lymphoma is possible or even Neuroblastoma.

So, yes it may be rare for a 17 year old to have cancer within the abdominal area . . but it happens. It happened to my son.
