A friend of mine had that happen, and when they peeked around in her lower bowel, they found lots of fibroids. It wasn't what they were looking for (they were all benign), but I'm sure she's glad they're gone.

I wouldn't worry about this just yet. From what I understand, they give you twilight meds so you're very relaxed, unaware of anything uncomfortable. It's an easy procedure, or so I hear.

I've had upper GI's, and one barium enema. I'd rather have a c-section than have that enema again. I can't imagine, with the sedation they give a patient, that a sigmoidoscopy could feel nearly so bad.

We don't know what they're looking for. Maybe one of the films from the investigation was slightly blurred in a spot. Don't think the letter "C" until they say it.

No, they just want to have another look, the BE will only show some things, a sig will introduce a tiny camera into your colon to check for local abnormalities such as diverticuli, localised inflammation or lesions and ulceration. It's far too early to worry, and IBS is a generic term for several different, non life threatening bowel disorders. Don't worry.

A normal procedure not to worry

A sigmoidoscopy is a routine procedure you should not worry about at all, and fortunately almost anything "bad" they might find is easily addressed. They probably saw something they could not identify on the X-ray, so they want to actually "look at it". This, too, is very common, and if there is something, it will likely turn out to be a piece of corn or apple peel!

Just to warn you, the sigmoidoscopy itself is less "unpleasant" by far than a barium enema, BUT the prep is every bit as nasty!

Best wishes....statistically it's probably nothing!

try not to worry this is probably just routine my wife had the same check up she was called back as i said just routine to see the best way to treat your ibs good luck
