Spondylolisthesis is a break in the pars of vertebrae, usually lumbar vertebrae. The bones of the spinal column themselves are surrounded by ligaments that run the length of the spinal column. There are two ligaments on each side of the vertebrae, the anterior longitudinal ligament (ALL) and the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL) that hold the bones in place. You can get laxity in the ligaments that can result in further slippage of the bones, but that is atypical.
its not a bone that slips..its the disk between the vertebrae that causes the bone to slip.
