Is there a medical treatment for Tourettes Syndrome?!

Question: My 16-year old son has a mild form, in that he does not curse. However, he does say inappropriate things, and is becoming particularly distressed at the jerky head and upper-body movements he feels he has to make. It's a particularly bad time for him as he's becoming conscious of what other people, particularly girls, think of him. Is there anything he can take to alleviate the physical symptoms?

Has your son been to a neurologist? That would be the person who would know the answer to this question. There are medications for this but the side effects may not be desirable.
Good luck!

I believe there is a technique similer to the one used to stop people stammering. I dont think it can be cured but it can be helped.

Yes, there are. Please take him to a Pediatric Neurologist.

Some meds can reduce the severity of the tics, but no meds can take them away all together.

I saw True Life and it said they put this thing inside a girl and when she presses a button ever now and then it turns on indide of her and its supposed to help. Maybe it improved by now. consult a doctor

I have tourettes, mostly with motor tics. I take risperidone for the tics and have cognative behavorial therpay appointments to try to allieviate the symptoms. SWince taking the drugs I have noticed a small difference in the intensity and violence of the tics, however there are some pretty nasty side effects. Thankfully the only side effect I have experianced is an increase in appetite.

I would reccommend looking up the different drugs for tourettes as some work better than others, but they all have some side effects.

I hope they work out for your son, I'm 18 so I know how awkward it can be for a teenager, particularly in leiu of people's comments and around thed opposite sex.

F*ck knows..........
