Yes. Poisoning or attempting to poison someone is a crime.

The act of secreting noxious substances in ingestibles for the purpose of bringing harm to others is called poisoning. It matters not if actual harm result from the attempt--the act itself is enough to land one in jail.
Yes you can go to jail for putting ANYTHING (dangerous or not) without the person's concent.
