Sharp pain in chest?!

Question: From time to time, I get an extremely sharp pain in my chest (right near my heart). It hurts so much that I must freeze for a moment until it goes away. It occurs when I make a sudden movement and only lasts for about a second. I am only 16. Is this something to worry about?

DARLING!
Do not worry.
I had the same thing and I am 15. I went to see a heart doctor and my family doctor and everything and the result was... growing pains.
It was like a sharp pain, you freeze and it goes away and you're back to normal.
Eventually it went away AFTER I saw the doctor.
At least I got the day off of school!

could be heartburn.. I used to get it whenever I ate some spicy food. if it is heartburn.. dont overeat and go easy on the spicy stuff. drinking buttermilk helps a lot.

if its not heartburn.. then you probably need to go to the doctor

I,d be interested in the answer to this as my daughter of 18 is getting these pains as well.

have your parents make an appointment with your doctor for evaluation. stay away from caffiene and drugs.

thats happens to me as well hardly ever but doesnt hurt that much i just have to put my hand near it, lasts like a split second and i'm 15...

Certain types of tension & anxiety can cause pain in various locations of the body. (Ever hear the expression "Pain in the Neck")? anyway, this is most likely what is happening.

I get the same thing from time to time, as it may be just have to do with your ribs having a slight discomfort when your lungs expand (what happens with me). However, I am NOT a doctor, so the best thing to do is ask YOUR doctor. There could be an underlying condition with your heart, so just to be safe please ask someone. At your age a problem with your heart is uncommon though. But still ask your doctor.

i have the same pain, and my doctor diagnosed me with chest wall pain. It is pain that comes from the wall of your chest. Try putting an ice pack on it, and a heating pad on it, off and on for 20 minutes each twice a day. That should help.

When you feel this pain, can you point to the exact spot where it hurts? If you can point to the exact spot then there is a good chance it isn't heart related. However, if it concerns you go get it checked out by a doctor.
