Benzoyl peroxide works as a peeling agent, increasing skin turnover and clearing pores, thus reducing the bacterial count there as well as directly as an antibacterial.

Salicylic acid is related to Aspirin.
It works by causing the cells of the epidermis to slough off more readily, preventing pores from clogging up, and allowing room for new cell growth. It also decreases inflammation so it will help the swelling go down.

I would go with the benzoyl peroxide because it will kill the bacteria.

I have heard that Benzoyl Peroxide dries out the skin causing irritation that can lead to your acne getting worse or not getting better.
I haven't heard of Salicylic acid.

I'm currently using a prescription medicine that has Benzoyl Peroxide in it and i wish it worked better but it DOES work to some degree.

Try some different things out.
Acne isn't fun,
but i wish you the best of luck.

I say benzoyl peroxide but probably because that is what I use and it works very well

Both irritates your skin due to its acidic pH concentration. From the articles I've read, benzoyl peroxide causes more dryness to the skin. Whichever you do choose to use, STICK TO IT. Once you get off of it, acne will return and whatnot.
