What are some good ideas for care basket items?!

Question: hey guys
I'm a 14 year old girl,my best friend thomas passed away a month ago after fighting almost 7 months exactly of Soft tissue sarcoma.
We spent everyday at the hospital with him,and now that he's gone..I thought that I would feel relieved that I won't be going to the hospital anymore, but instead I feel like I SHOULD be going.
so,I thought that I could do something for all the people that are at the hospital now like thomas was.
I want to make care baskets that have little toys for the kids to play with (I plan on going to kosair) and then make homemade blankets and pillows for the adults that have to sleep in the uncomfortable chairs.
does anyone else have any ideas of what to put into the baskets?
I don't want a whole lot,I just want to show these people that they are not alone, because I know that thomas's family worried about that when they went to the hospital.
some stuff I have on the list already is food, art supplies, temporary tattoos, rubber duckies, stuffed animals

No food, especially not anything homemade. Many cancer patients are neutropenic (meaning their immune system is weak due to chemotherapy) and homemade foods/foods from home can be full of germs. Often, they wont be allowed to eat them.

Try things that can be easily cleaned or usefull such as...

Bubbles
Coloring Books
Crayons/Markers
Nail Polish
Toothbrushes/Toothpaste/Mouthwash
Baby Wipes
Small Toys (i.e. hotwheels)
Gift Cards!!! (for gas, or Wal-Mart, Target)
Hats
DVDs
Travel Size Games
Decks of Cards
etc.

I've been treated for cancer for almost 12 years off and on and I'm 18. All of these things are great. I just dont recommend food or flowers.
Hope I helped.

Make some Homeade Goodies ~ I bet the families would like that because when they are in the hospital they hardly have time to eat.

I don't have any suggestions Patsy but you are a good, good person to do this.

I wish you the best and hope the pain of losing your friend gets better soon.

You are too sweet -

I'll tell you what, I travel to Louisville every month on business - my next trip is scheduled for the last week of this month. I will donate a large basket myself and drop it off at the hospital. If a 14 year old can be a generous as you - a 30 year old can at least match it.

Would you mind letting me know what Thomas's last name was, you can send it via email if you don't want to post it online.

Anyone else want to match her too?

How about books? It doesn't matter if they are new or used. Both patients and visitors need something to help pass the time.
