Assuming she has not lost her hair, which does not happen with ALL chemo, the cancer drugs cause your body to react very differently to any chemicals.
If she dyes her hair as usual, she may get a very different result, or no color at all.
Are her blood counts OK? That would help prevent any infection.
She may get sick from any smells at the salon too.

Chemo results in hair loss.
The hair dresser is nuts.

If you keep dying your hair, you can get sick. Light-headed, nauseous, throw up, etc. Especially if you're body's already weak.

I think it has to do with the chemicals because they seep into your head or something...

Well, it could cause an infection. The chemo patients immune system is non existent. The dye does infact seep into your skin. I used temp dye, and I always had a stained scalp for several days.

The dye absorbed by the skin could cause infection.

Also, the dyes that use ammonia or bleech or other harsh chemicals are very hard on the lungs. Chemo patients are very suspectable to lung issues and infections due to the weakened immune system.

Furthermore, not medically, but the patient may still loose their hair. Why spend that money when they are going to loose their hair in a couple weeks.

HOWEVER, I dont think the hairdresser can be held liable for any of that. They are not medical professionals. It was the patients own stupid decision, knowing the risks.

The hair dresser is nuts. The only thing that seems to be on his mind is $$$. Not to mention your hair is weak anyway--dyeing it would be harder on it-probally will look terrible. It can't be healthy to put any chemicals near your body- because chemo lowers your immune system.

Apparently, the damage to the hair that can be caused by chemotherapy may alter the way the hair absorbs the dye, which means that it is impossible to predict the colour you end up with. Also chemotherapy can cause increased skin sensitivity, so dyes which normally do not cause problems can cause a skin reaction in chemotherapy patients. So all in all hair dyes or perming solutions are not recommended. Hope that helps

The medical regiment i had to take was every two weeks of chemo, and this was no fun. After the second treatment my hair started falling out in large clumps and this hurt my feelings so badly, because as many women feel our hair is our crown and glory, yes it grows back, but i mourned the lost of my hair. I went to my hair dresser when i was diagnosed with Breast Cancer Stage # B metastatic breast cancer, and asked for the shortest and sassiest hair cut and called it a day,my hair was very long and i couldn't bare to watch it fall out in clumps so i cut it. I suggest a cute short hair cut so you can at least prepare for the lost of your hair and the skin is so sensitive to chemicals and can burn the skin sometimes, i suggest maybe a rinse and a cute of your choice.
