Question: my girlfriend has the flu. and she is in her house for a week. I am wondering how long she is contagious for. i heard somewhere that you are only contagious for the first 48 hours. is this true? we are dying to see each other!

As long as you are sick, you are contagious.
The 48-hour contagion thing is completely wrong. That doesn't medically make sense with regards to any disease on the planet.
I don't think that's true...
My doctor had me stay home for at least half a week when I got the flu. (( So like 4 days )) provided I took the medicine regularly.

Just don't have direct contact with her for a couple of days and wash your hands well.. later it will be good.
most likely she has a virus which can last 3-21 days. rest is a great idea. have her drink lots of fluid, too. you both need to wash your hands more frequently. when she is better, have her disinfect her home especially door knobs, drawer handles, light switches, and faucet knobs.
