Who knows about the new HIV testing?!

Question: Why is it that the new OraQuick 20 minutes HIV test is not sold in stores like a pregnancy test. Wouldn't it make sense to allow people to get this things just like a pregnancy test then people could get tested whenever they feel like....at home alone or together with whoever they are seeing at the time if they felt like it. I didn't even know there was a new way to Test for HIV they should be advertising this. Why......why why?

1) The local health department, doctor's offices and CDC want to keep track of the results of the general public. The medical field HAS to report any positive case to the CDC - even if you do an anon. test with the Health Department; if it is positive, then they have to take your information down to report your status.

2) It is better for a health professional to adminster the test. The reasoning behind this is due to any faulty issues and/or human errors. Also, when a positive result comes up - they do another test (the western blot) to confirm the HIV virus is present.

When I did my oraquick, I went to the local health department - had it done and sat and chatted with the RN's. I got my results and promptly left. I could get tested at any time as well.
The medical field just need to make sure they take all precautions when it comes to this virus.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) needs to be able to monitor the new cases of HIV so they can't sell tests over the counter, however, you can get a confidential test done at your local health department.
