My dear old dad is getting out of breath, particularly when bending, he had a by!

Question: operation last year but he's still having this which was a symptom he had before. He also falls asleep two or three times each day. His blood iron levels are okay apparently. He's got a check up in a few weeks, but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as his doctor seems puzzled. Thank you.

Take stock in his meds!!! Make sure that the side affects from any of them don't include 'shortness of breath'. Sometimes a combination of scripts can cause unique side affects too. How long ago was his surgery and was he better at first afterwards or basically the same??? Or even worse??? My Mother had COPD and would take musinex on a regular basis to counteract some of her shortness of breath and to keep her chest cleaned out. Another possible cause is just plain poor circulation, If you didn't see a significant change after his surgery, maybe a second opinion is in order! Is he currently on any type of steroid??? If not, maybe he should be to help get his stamina back. There is also a possibility that the surgery wasn't as successful as the Docs may have led on. Not trying to scare you, just food for thought. You didn't mention his age, its possible he's just getting older and possibly even severely depressed(the frequent naps indicate that as a possibility). Take stock in meds, make sure they don't conflict with each other, its even possible that one of his meds that he has been taking since before the surgery is the culprit. Hope this gives you a couple of ideas that you haven't thought of yet. GL and Bless You. Both of my parents have passed on in the last 12 months so try to savor the time you do get to spend with him. Joking moments can turn into cherished memories literally overnight.

Look after him you only have one dad bless him, doctors do get puzzled beyond PARACETAMOL.

If your Father is over the age of 65 and has medicare he can qualify for Home Health. He Has to be considered home bound which is defined by the government as "A considerable amount of effort" to get anywhere outside the home. Your Father would greatly benefit from physical and occupational therapy. The physical therapy will help get him back into shape and the occupational therapy will help him conserve the energy he has by teaching him new ways to do the things he has always done. There is no max benefit on Home Health and with Medicare part A&B there is no billing to the patient. You can go to www.medicare.gov to check out the scores and ratings of your local Home Healths. A Doctor does not have to prescribe it and the home health will consult with the physician and you (the family) on a proper care plan. Home Health is a blessing that will truly help your Father.
