Diabetes question??!

Question: I have a few questions, first of all, a year ago I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic, I switched to diet drinks ans try to watch the obvious sugars and I take metformin once a day. This has been the extint of my treatment, I guess you could say I am in denial about the whole thing. I just started testing again and it shows in the 200's, 234 the lowest, 299 the highest. I need to know how often I should eat and what times of the day i should eat and what to eat (examples). The whole mess confuses me, I only eat one main meal a day and may have a few snacks during the day. I eat alot of fruit and veggies and love all types of meat. I am not a big sweet person, as I would rather have steak over chocolat any day LOL.
I also don't feel the need to go to a DR. every week to take care of this problem, I have insurance but who the heck can pay all those copays?! Can ya'll PLEASE give me some advise or menue suggestions?

You don't need to see the doctor every week.Four times a year should be good.Would you perform your own operation ? Would you put your own leg in a cast ?You need the support of a doctor.
Make an appointment with a good endocrinologist.
Have a general check up some some basic labs drawn.
Your endo can refer you to a diabetes ed class and a dietitian who will work with you on the types of food that are best for you and your lifestyle. You will also learn to count carbs.
Subscribe to diabetes magazines and join an on line or real life support group.
You will do great.
Good luck.

check out Web MD or the diabetes association online for some great info

check online prevention.com...mayoclinic.com for information on managing your blood sugar.. stop drinking the diet sodas ,they will not help this problem.. drink water, tea, crystal light drinks.... one meal a day is not good for you. eat some plain oatmeal in the morning, something healthy for lunch and dinner. for snacks you could have fresh fruit, raw veggies, eat brown rice and wheat pasta exercise daily even walking is good for you.. next time you visit the doctor ask your doctor to refer you to a nutritionist for advice about your diet choices.... you should see your doctor soon so your blood sugar level can be come stable..... your life and health is more important that your co payments.

Firstly I think that you should a least have a check up twice a year considering you are on medication. Diet drinks are fine as long as you don't use drinks that contain sucrose or fruitose. I would suggest eat little and often have a good breakfast have something at 11, lunch, dinner and an evening snack. Try and stick to a low GI diet as this is very good for giving energy without big highs. A GI diet can be researched on the internet and it is very good. For a sweet treat fruit (not tinned) and a small amount of vanilla ice cream is fine

Consider yourself lucky that you are not showing the typical symptoms of diabetes. At those readings most people would be in much worse shape. The one big meal is not ideal. Much better to have more frequent smaller meals. Vigorous sustained exercise a couple of times a week will reset your metabolism to use glucose better. Exercise for metabolism can be less frequent than for cardio or weight loss, but it must be strenuous, reps won't do the job.
