Pea sized lump in right underarm?!

Question: Last night in the shower I discovered a pea sized, hard, and very tender to touch lump in my right underarm.
At first I began to freak out, and I checked my neck and my groin area for more lumps but I didn't find anymore lumps similar to the one in my right underarm.
I know thats where one of the lymph nodes are situated so I'm quite worried because members of my family have histories of Leukemia, and other cancers.

My arm was quite sore for some time before this but I thought nothing of it because I've been doing alot of exercise and thought it was just sore from that... but this morning when I woke up I could barely move my arm without an extremely horrible pain that runs from my top rib to half the length of my arm (just before my elbow).

Am I over-reacting or freaking out for no reason?
I'm planning on seeing a Doctor ASAP, but is there anything else it could be?

You don't have any business worrying and imagining the worst until all the tests are in. You're healthy, you're exercising, and you know your body well enough to notice a lump while it's still tiny. All of these are in your favor.

TX Mom

Could be benign lump or malignant.

It sounds like a sebaceous cyst and/or swollen hair follicle.

i'd put money down that its a cyst. they're fairly common. easily removed as well and no they dont mean u have cancer

I have had those come and go. If it is of concern to go, go ahead and see the doctor. IT couldn't hurt. I believe that could go from a wide range of being nothing to something serious.

Sounds like a blocked sweat gland (more than likely!). Still, go to a GP and get it checked out.

That is very smart to see your doctor ASAP-like TOMORROW MORNING (see a gyne if you have one vs. an internal medicine...they deal with breast lumps a lot more frequently). It sounds like a breast lump (a lot of breast lumps are detected in the armpit area-yes, that still is breast tissue). It may be nothing, but I would much rather freak out over nothing than let something sit!

hmmm definitely go to the docs... i found exactly the same thing under my left arm..... but it went away after a few days....

Its probably an ingrown hair. I would worry about it.

Go see a doctor if it doesn't go down in size in 2 weeks.

If there's a history of Leukaemia and other cancer in your family, then it's perfectly understandable that you're worried.

Don't panic yet, though. It's far more likely to be a cyst or a boil or an infected follicle, all of which are uncomfortable but not life-threatening. The doctor will probably give you some antibiotic cream to put on it, depending what the diagnosis is.

Good luck!
