Snoring is caused by an obstruction in a person's airway. It can be mild or severe, and it can be life threatening if it obstructs his airway to the point where it impedes air flow into his lungs.

OSA, obstructive sleep apnea, is a respiratory condition where a person stops breathing because the obstruction in the airway causes loss of air flow to the lungs. It is a relatively common disorder. He might need a sleep study by polysomnographer to determine if he has OSA.

Also, his tonsils might be enlarged, and he might need a tonsillectomy, a common procedure where a surgeon removes his tonsils. That will prevent them from blocking his airway.

He might also have an enlarged tongue, called Macroglassia. That can definitely cause snoring.

I would definitely bring him in to see a physician, if you haven't already. When it comes to the airway, you don't want to mess around or hesistate on treatment. There is a reason why the "A" is the first letter in "ABC" for CPR administration. It stands for airway. Hope this helps.

I would say it's normal. My 9 month old snores. The doctor said that his sinuses were normal and that we shouldn't do anything about it.

It's not good to snore. It signals an obstruction in the airway. Snorers don't get a good sleep, because they often wake up frequently twitching and snorting. Long term sleep deprivation causes a host of problems. Excessive day time drowsiness, and plain old crankiness are some indications that he may not be getting a good restful sleep. The lack of oxygen to the brain and body if he suffers from sleep apnea (stops breathing) while he sleeps is a whole other issue. Get a pediatrician to see him, he may need surgery to correct his airway, like an adnoidectomy or tonsillectomy. He may also need a sleep study to see if he has sleep apnea that can be potentially problematic. Good luck.

I have never heard of a two year old snoring before. I just did a web search on "2 year old snoring" and got several sites to check out...so there is lots of information out there...take care..
