It could well be caused by anxiety and panic attacks.

The body often creates real responses as a result of the mental pressures caused by anxiety and panic. If you aren't breathing properly (through the nose) breathing through the mouth only can often cause sore throats (think back to the last time you had a cold and a blocked nose)

If you are on edge, worried or stressed at bed time, then this can cause tension, which can have a real physical effect.

Try to chill out before bed time. Avoid alcohol, smoking, heavy foods.

Make sure your bedroom is well ventilated.

Take a bath before bedtime (but not too hot), and put a few drops of lavendar oil in the bath water.

Don't watch telly in bed, but play some relaxing music, or a relaxation cd. Don't over light your room, if you don't like the dark, use a night light.

Concentrate on slow abdominal breathing, breathing in through the nose, and out through the mouth, slowly and steadily.

Sip camomile tea before bed, and take a spoonful of honey.

Try this for a week, setting yourself as regular bedtime as you are able, and see how you go.

I have no idea why this happens, but I used to suffer from anxiety, and I discovered that the feeling of something being stuck in the throat was common amongst sufferers.

If you aren't having problems during the day, but only notice it at night when you haven't got other distractions to occupy your mind then the chances are its anxiety related.

If you are in any doubt though, you should see your doctor immediately

Hope you feel better soon

If you have a sore throat that affects your breathing you should seek immediate medical attention. It's likely going to worsen without care and it can even be a life-threatening condition such as epiglottitis.

Take care of yourself!

anxiety does not cause sore throats that im aware of..it might be strep or some other throat infection..go to a doctor

try halls put or its btter if you go to the doctor

I've had something similar to this for 17 years so i wouldnt worry although i'm no doctor. My problem turned out to be a problem with my nose, i know it feels like your throat because i know the exact kind of thing you mean but mine was caused by my nose being blocked which was meaning my throat was having to take in more air and that made it really sore.
I'm no doctor as i say but i'd go and see a gp who will most likely send you to hospital for a basic check. That sorted me out after 17 years of bad throats!

Hiya!

Best just to go to docs and get it checked out. I was rushed to hospital with a condition called Epiglottis before christmas. Those same symtoms plus I couldn't swallow easily. eventually couldn't swallow food or drink.

This strange flu virus thats going around is causing it.

Phoebs

Hey erm i would suggest seeing a doctor if you are having problems breathing. It could be a throat infection which will need anit biotics. Or as you said it could be panic attacks as they tense all your muscles etc and make it feel like you got a lump in your throat. Its hard to diagnose anything without seeing it.
