Breaking out in hives?!

Question: I've been breaking out in hives for the past couple of weeks, but it only happens at a specific time. Usually when I get out of the shower or late at night. I just read somewhere that cancer can cause hives and unfortunately I'm a bit of a hypochondriac so I'm basically freaking out. I've also had a bit of a scratchy throat that comes and goes. What do you think it is?

not cancer ... cancer causes hives DURING TREATMENT ... and unless someone is secretly injecting you with kemo drugs then its not the cause.

Hives are usually an allergic reaction in something you have come in contact with ... and seeing as you get it coming out of the shower the best bet is either a cleanser, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, towel material or detergent you wash them in ...

even if you havent changed products since you started getting hives, doesnt mean the companies that make the products havent changed ingredients

companie will quite often change their ingredients for cost or productivity without telling people.

try the following test ... each night eliminate only 1 item from your bathroom that is man made ... when that night you get out with no hives then you know thats the product you need to rethink about using/replacing

I doubt it is cancer so just throw that thought out the window. You need to go to a dermatologist. There could be a zillion reasons why you have this. I am sure it is something very simple. As for the scratchy throat - it is probably coincidental. You could be coming down w/a cold.

u r having a serious allergic reaction. does ur throat feel like its tightening up? if so, that is part of the allergic reaction. if it gets any worse u will not b able to breathe. u need to find out what is causing ur allergic reaction right away. in the meantime take some benadryl or a generic form of it. it will help ur symptoms. it could be the soap u are using if its happening after u get out of the shower

No stop being a hypochondriac. I am a bit of one myself. No cancer. You are having some allergic reaction to something you are exposed to. It could be something like mold spores growing in the shower, the chemicals you use to clean the shower, a new soap or body wash you use, or new detergent you use on your towels? Now I know you say, but heh my shower is clean. If there is a bit of a crack anywhere including the caulking water gets in there and mold can grow behind the wall.

My daughter who is now 5 1/2 is allergic to mold. How did I finally figure it out. Well when we brought her home from the hospital preemie baby I had a bassinet our bedroom at this little apartment we lived in. Well she would starts wheezing and break out in a rash all over. I would wheel her out into the living space and she would be fine within a few minutes. I kept doing that over and over. Once we moved we found out they got sited for having mold growing in the walls of several of the apartments. When we did finally get her tested at 18 months old they said that is one thing she tested high for and she can be several feet away from the mold and still break out.

I suggest you get tested and make sure you aren't using anything new that might be causing this. Also could be new clothes? Always wash clothes before wearing them because they have chemicals in them that can cause allergic breakouts. Hives can also be caused by stress and if you have been stressed out and you may be thinking of things while you are in the shower and that could be a cause. Regardless it is just best to get tested. That way you will know for sure. Start tracking when it happens, what time of day, what you are doing, what you are using on your skin, things that are around.

allergy, what did you eat before they appeared?

Snickers: since it is happening after a shower and late at night, it could be your personal hygiene products. A little bit of paranoia can be a good thing. It might cause you to start reading the labels of the stuff that you rub on your body. Remember your skin is your largest organ. Many people do not realize that there are high amounts of formaldehyde, toulene, and parabens in most personal care products. If you want to be afraid of cancer, then be afraid of what happens when you expose your body to formaldehyde. I am going to give you a link to an article that talks about the dangers of this toxic chemical in your home and a link to some personal care stuff that doesn't have all that stuff in it.
Another thing to investigate is if you are on municipal water, they might be super chlorinating it. The cities do this once or twice a year to "super clean" their pipes, but it results in skin problems for lots of people
