i also have eczema , i also use the "hot water treatment' and apply Vaseline after wards , but i find that it does ease the itching for a while, but i hate that oily feeling Vaseline has though it helps. But i prefer creams or emollients and of course i use prescribed medication.i suppose eczema is hereditary .From what i heard it usually skips a generation (unfortunately for me) .Also people have diff rent skin types , the weather also plays an important factor on the "flare ups', As for the different types of meds people use from experience i have found that if i use a particular med my body gets so used to that med that it no longer works for me , weird isn't it .you are lucky to only have it on your hands, if i can say that.

One of the reasons that some people, including myself, have severe eczema is due to allergens. I'm allergic to multiple things, so I can't avoid the allergens, and my skin is constantly responding to this. Even allergy shots has not reduced my eczema.

Some people also have poor diets, which has been noted as making eczema worse.

Some people outgrow it as well.

Everybody is different...just like some people have minor allergies or minor asthma where as other people have it severely.
